The U14's lost their unbeaten record, as we slipped to a 15 run defeat against Hoddesdon U15's at Cricketfield Lane yesterday evening.
Despite 3 early wickets, Hoddesdon amassed a sizeable total of 157-3, with Harry Frans our stand out bowler with 2 wickets.
Charlie Waugh again batted superbly in his innings of 41 (retired not out), ably supported by Ciaran Wilson 16, but it was not enough in the end. This defeat came down to a few things:-
1. In the field we lacked intensity and we looked lethargic, even disinterested at times. This is so unlike this age group.
2. The boys turned up 'expecting to win'. This simply cannot happen.
3. We bowled far too short at times and we were punished for it.
4. Hoddesdon's batters pushed our fielders really hard, stealing singles and turning the 1's in to 2's. We failed to do this when batting.
5. Ultimately Hoddesdon showed "more desire as a team" & they certainly deserved to win last night.
This might just be 'a lesson' that these boys needed, so please let's learn from it.
To achieve your goals, you ALWAYS need to be 100% focused and ALWAYS give 100% effort. This did not happen last night.
Let's RESET and become a better team for it. We go again. Thanks for your support.
